With a full coat of fur, people might think that dogs don’t need more than their natural coat to keep warm outdoors. However, on cold days and for dogs with short hair, a dog coat can be necessary. It’s important to be aware of the conditions outdoors when taking your dog for a walk or even letting them out into the yard. If it’s below freezing or a few degrees above it, a dog coat and even dog boots are necessary to keep the dog warm. Select dogs that are bred to survive in cold temperatures, like Huskies and St. Bernards, won’t need the extra layer of protection from the elements, but most other breeds will. Just like people, dogs can also catch pneumonia, the common cold, and even frostbite. Owners should be aware that smaller dogs can be more vulnerable to the cold than larger breeds, and should take the necessary precautions.
Should you ever suspect that your dog is too cold or has become the victim of one of those conditions that can be attributed to cold weather, contact a veterinarian and take them somewhere warm to rest.

I’ve had a lot of faithful dogs, but have been as loyal to me over the years as Old Duke. Duke is an old bloodhound, and he has a passion for sniffing stuff out. When I come home at night, even though I go to the same place every day, Duke spends no less than fifteen minutes smelling at my clothes. Even after I’ve changed out of my work clothes, Duke tries to snuffle them hanging up in the closet. I don’t know what he finds so fascinating about the office!
Duke has never been one much for fancy clothing, but in terms of stylish dog apparel, he loves his bandanas. Duke has a whole collection of bandanas he wears around his neck, I think it keeps him comfortable in the colder weather. But he’s grown so attached to his bandanas that if one falls off, he just stops moving and smells it until I put it back around his neck.
So having 6 Shih Tzus you have to do your own grooming. Impossible to afford sending them out for a bath and and cut. So now that I am retired instead of doing them all in one weekend I do one at a time. This past weekend Kimi got her bath and hair cut. It is amazing what a difference a bath makes. Especially when the dogs are mostly all white. They get dirty so fast. And I have 6 of them to groom. When they are done they look sooooo great. Or should I say Beautiful Yes Beautiful .

Now I don’t know about ya’ll, but in my house, my dog Shakira is a doggy duchess. I love dressing up Shakira in the latest dog fashion, and buying her fancy dog collars. When my friends come to visit, they always comment on how cute Shakira is in her pink jacket with her fancy dog collar studded with rhinestones. I also love taking Shakira to the park, she might be a lady at home, but she also loves to chase balls, pinecones, and Frisbees!
The duchess always makes her presence known when people come over to the house. While I think most dogs bark because they’re scared or protecting their territory, Shakira barks so that people will pay attention to her. It’s so funny that she waits at the top of the stairs and barks until people bend down to pet her, just like a real duchess, she always wants to be the center of attention!
It fits so good and looks so good. Duke is my model.
Just received my sample over the weekend and was very happy with the construction of the New Soft Harness. He is wearing a size medium. He weighs about 12 to 13 lbs. My dogs range from 9 to 13 lbs and they all wear a medium. It is adjustable around the belly. Very nice and comes in a variety of colors.
